Hamour fingerling hatchery
A land based hatchery producing fingerlings of the orange spotted grouper, the Gulf’s hamour, using recirculating aquaculture technology: 99 percent water reuse, controlled temperature, copepod based larval feeding and year round spawning. Production would begin with a trial cycle of 20,000 fingerlings and scale toward one million per cycle, sold to grow out farms at about four dollars each.
The ask
About USD 350,000 (about BHD 132,000): equipment, shipping and installation, tools, six months of rent and working capital.
The return
Investment recovered within 10 to 11 months, as the owner projects it, with each cycle taking three to four months.
The market
Gulf demand for hamour far exceeds what wild catch supplies, and fingerlings are the bottleneck for local fish farming.
