A student sent me the questions below in order to complete his research on Bahrain. I will answer him in due time, how would you go about answering them? Let me know…

1. How did you perceive the 2011 uprising in Bahrain? Were you surprised that it took place or did you expect the protests and violence to erupt regarding Bahraini history?
2.Would you define the conflict in Bahrain as intractable or as periodic since there have been cycles of violence since colonial time (i.e. 1954, 1965, 1972, 1980, 1994-’99)?
3. To what extent do you perceive these acts of destruction as relevant/significant or as a perpetuation for the current conflict situation?
4. Regarding the social construction of reality: do you belief this act of destruction is relevant to the people affected by it, whether or not intent or perpetrators are demonstrated officially?
5. Do you feel there is a spatial component in the existing grievances within Bahraini society? If so, which?
6. In academic theory, the act of destruction as a form of political violence is sometimes brought down to a materialization of power relations. Regarding the case study of Bahrain,
do you feel that this spatial dimension of the uprising perpetuated the sectarian divide or the state-society divide?
7. The destruction was labeled as badly timed, but mostly carried out legally, by the BICI report. Do you agree on this conclusion or do you belief the destruction was carried out purposefully and should be contextualized according to the history of existing discrimination and political violence violence against the Shi’a community?
8. What stands out for you regarding the Bahrain uprising and how do you expect the conflict to evolve in the upcoming time?

    لا أريد الإجابة المباشرة للأسئلة المطروحة بل سأرد عن هذه الأسئلة بطريقة غير مباشرة و ذلك بالمقارنة مع دول عربية أخرى شهدت إضطربات وسميت “بالربيع العربي” بالرغم أن التسمية لا أقتنع بها شخصيا وذلك لفقدان تلك الدول تصنيفهم الإئتماني، فقدانهم الأسواق السياحية، فقدانهم المستثمرين الأجانب الذين غادروا تلك الدول …. كل هذه المؤشرات لا تدل على ربيع عربي بل تدل على شتاء عربي قارس.
    بالنسبة لي شخصيا هذه الإضطربات، ما عدى الإضطربات التي شهدتها دول الخليج، كانت متؤخرة بعض الشيء.
    الدول التي قامت بثورات و سميت “بالربيع العربي” كان فيها الشعب و لا زال يعاني من الضرائب التي أثقلت كاهل المواطن هنا أتحدث عن ضريبة الجولان للسيارة (ضريبة تفوق قيمتها معلوم تأمين السيارة) ، ضريبة إستهلاك الماء (ضريبة قيمتها بين 90% و 100% من معلوم إستهلاك الماء)، ضريبة إستهلاك الكهرباء (ضريبة تقدر ب100% من معلوم إستهلاك الكهرباء) ، ضريبة على الدخل….
    هذا و لا يفوتكم أن المواطنين في هذه الدول لا يتمتعون بالخدمات الصحية المجانية و حتى الحكومية، أما بالنسبة للتلاميذ في المرحلة الإبتدائية و الإعدادية و الثانوية فهم لا يتمتعون بالكتب المدرسية مجانا و على الأولياء شراؤها.
    فهل أن هؤلاء الساهرين على إقامة الإضطرابات في البحرين مثيل علي سلمان و غيره هذا ما يريدون إرساءه ؟ بمعنى آخر فهل أنهم سيكنون أصلح من حكومة آل خليفة ؟ فهل أن لهم مخطاطات للدولة ؟ و ماهي هذه المخطاطات ؟ وهل أن مخطاطاتهم أحسن من مخطط ولي العهد ل2030 ؟
    في زياراتي لعدة دول عربية إنبهرت بالديمقراطية التي تنعم بها البحرين إذ أن المعارضة هي مشاركة في الحياة السياسية و ذلك من وجودها داخل مجلس الشورى و مجلس النواب.
    المعارضة يجب أن تكون معارضة بناءة و ليست معارضة هدامة تغر ببعض فئات من الشعب الذين ينقصهم الوعي حتى تبث الفتنة و هلاك الدولة و تحقق أهداف دول خارجية …
